Files and File Types

Files and File Types

You have the option to upload different files for printing.  The upload form will require some files, while others are optional depending on the work you are producing.

Thumbnail (Web Cover) - a thumbnail, or web cover, is a preview image of the cover of your work. This file can be a JPEG or PNG and must be smaller than 5 MB.  This file is required when uploading a work for print-on-demand.

Cover - The cover file is a printed covering used for scores, folios, and books.  It is produced on a heavier card stock with B&W and color printing options.  This file is optional if printing a booklet or choral score.
Cover Types
There are several printing options when adding a cover.
  1. Standard Cover - This type of cover is saddle stitched to the score interior.
  2. Folio Cover/Wrapper - a folio or wrapper is common for large ensemble and chamber works.  These type of covers form a folder to hold printed pieces of the publication such as a score and parts.
  3. Covers for Coil Bound - If your score or book is coil bound, then you will need to submit a front and back cover for the work.  If your score is coil bound, and you do not include a cover file your interior file will just be printed coil bound with no cover.
Score Interior/Booklet Files
Score Interior - The interior of a score is attached to cover.
Booklet - a booklet is produced without a card stock cover.  This is common for choral scores.  To include a cover design for a booklet, the cover should be collated with the score file.
Binding
When uploading music works, you have two options for binding: saddle stitch and coil.
  1. Saddle Stitch - staples used to bind the pages at the spine.
  2. Coil - a plastic coil is used to bind the pages at the spine.
Parts
If your work contains inserts or parts, you will use this section to include each separate part.
You will be asked to include the following information for each part file:  part name, page count, and number of each part to include.
  1. Part Name - Instrument, plus the order number (i.e. Trumpet 1, Horn in F 2, etc.)
  2. Page Count - Include how many pages each part is.
  3. How Many to Print? - This will indicate whether multiple copies of the same part should be printed.  If just one part should be included,
Audio
Audio files are optional.  If you upload an audio file with your score, live recordings are recommended.  Some retailers who accept audio samples will only accept live recordings.
